Aloni is first and foremost an aspiring mermaid. As a PADI open water scuba diving instructor, she loves to explore hidden sanctuaries under the sea and feels most alive when surrounded by sharks, turtles and schooling barracudas. She is passionate about marine science, conservation and coral reef restoration. Empowered to share her global concerns for our oceans, Aloni loves to talk about her affection for the sea with students, friends and family. Fortunately, as is true for most humans, Aloni is often confined to terrestrial environments. In this realm, she has spent just over a decade developing her career as an international educator in Canada, Colombia, Hong Kong and Singapore. Born in Canada, but raised in the warm seaside city of Montego Bay, Jamaica, Aloni feels most at-home in tropical climates. With a spirit for adventure and an adaptable nature, she braved more than a few consecutive winters back “home” in Canada, pursuing a B.Sc in Wildlife Biology at Guelph University. After graduating, Aloni spent a couple of years exploring career options in South America and the Caribbean. Inspired by a teaching job in Cali, Colombia, she ventured north again to complete a B.Ed in Outdoor & Experiential Education at Queen’s University. It was after this that she set her sights on Asia! Although her teaching roles have been predominantly focused in subject areas of Math & Science, in both Middle and Primary divisions, Aloni has continued to foster her love of Outdoor and Experiential Education by designing, developing and leading many off-campus expeditions to rural areas in China, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia. Aloni loves working with teachers and learners outside the confines of traditional classrooms and thinks that JUMP! is the perfect place for her to grow, learn and explore.
