Born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mary Ulseth has exchanged the frigid snowy winters for the tropical weather of Thailand, where she has been living and working as an English language teacher and experiential education program coordinator for the past three years in Chiang Mai.
Her passion for travel and interest in cultural exchange has a long and varied history. It began in Latin America, where she discovered her love for foreign languages, community development, and salsa dancing. She further pursued these endeavors in college by majoring in Anthropology and Global Development Studies and since then has continued to explore issues surrounding women’s rights, social justice, and experiential education in Southeast Asia. For the past two years, she has planned and led programs focused on Elephant Conservation in Thailand and Social Justice & Community Development in Cambodia with Walking Tree Travel, and has simultaneously been JUMP!ing around Southeast Asia for the past year, empowering students and encouraging everyone to just dance.
When she’s not traveling, she enjoys exploring the outdoors, talking to new people, practicing Thai, trying delicious street food, and zumba-ing!
