Our Southeast Asia Programs foster an understanding of other cultures, sustainable travel practices, and awareness of development issues. Cambodia

  • Social Enterprises and the role of Art in Peace and reconciliation - Innovations in Post War worlds - Battambang
    • Participants will journey to Cambodia, a country with a very rich and prominent history and culture - and home to thriving social initiatives, such as arts advocacy, preservation of historical heritage sites, and peace and reconciliation efforts. Participants will stay in Krong Battambang, and be immersed in the communities, local businesses, and organizations that are in the forefront in championing their advocacies, through participation on biking tours in countrysides, participation in cultural workshops and performances, learning to haggle in their local market, hiking and entering caves, and exploration of important historical sites. The combination of these experiences will not only help participants gain a deeper understanding of Cambodia and Khmer culture, but will also help them examine closely and reflect how social inclusion, empowerment of communities, and sustainable development could provide the country with the resiliency to regain its vigor after crises.
  • Community Innovations in Peace and Reconciliation - Kampot
    • The Kampot Expedition gives balanced learning about Cambodia's very rich and prominent history and culture, with beautiful adventures in the region. Participants will stay in Krong Kampot, and be immersed in the communities, local businesses, and organizations that are in the forefront in championing their advocacies, through participation on biking tours in countrysides, participation in cultural dance performances, planting of mangrove saplings, learning to haggle in their local market, and exploration of important historical sites. The combination of these experiences will not only help participants gain a deeper understanding of Cambodia and Khmer culture, but will also help them examine closely and reflect how social inclusion, empowerment of communities, and sustainable development could provide the country with the resiliency to regain its vigor after crises.

Malaysia

  • Jungle Adventures 101 - Janda Baik
    • Janda Baik is a small town just two hours outside of the bustle of Kuala Lumpur. The town is nestled among the rich mountain forests and rocky waterfall-fed creeks. Participants immerse themselves in the rich local biodiversity, exploring protected forest ecosystems and working to build positive personal and group dynamics in the outdoors. In addition the theme of the program is focused on sustainability and self-efficiency, guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The program is designed to be an introduction to the outdoors. Participants are introduced to its core themes as well as to the SDGs that guide their curriculum. Participants trekked through mountains and rivers, engage in outdoor team activities, journal each night, and are challeneged to interact with the natural world around them guided by their own curiosity and sense of adventure. Team building activities, raft building, and survival challenges involving food gathering, shelter building, fire starting all aimed to contribute toward a sense of community and raise awareness towards living sustainably.
