The 2nd AEE-APAC Conference, held in Pune, India, brought together over 300 educators, facilitators, and practitioners with a shared passion for transformative learning. Hosted by the Association of Experiential Educators Asia Pacific Region and the Foundation of Experiential Education Practices, the five-day event was a confluence of ideas, emotions, and an unshakable sense of purpose.
A Space for Growth and Reflection
From the outset, the conference radiated energy—a mix of curiosity, excitement, and a deep commitment to making learning more engaging and meaningful. The diversity of attendees was striking, with both seasoned experts and newcomers contributing to a vibrant exchange of ideas. Even the most experienced practitioners were seen eagerly taking notes, open to fresh insights. This atmosphere underscored a fundamental truth of experiential education: there’s always room for growth when there’s a willingness to listen and learn.
JUMP!’s Presence and the Quest for Accessible Learning
JUMP! Foundation had a meaningful presence at the conference, emphasizing its expertise in student and educator development, as well as outdoor education. A key highlight was a two-day masterclass led by our Executive Director, Justin Bedard, titled “Bringing Experiential Education to Schools.” The session focused on making transformative learning accessible for all students, even when nature’s classrooms—mountains, caves, oceans, and rivers—aren’t within reach. The discussions were thoughtful and intentional, engaging participants from diverse backgrounds in the shared mission of designing experiential programs that can thrive within school environments. The masterclass highlighted the importance of inclusivity and the need for adaptable, impactful learning experiences.
Arindita’s Workshop: Building on JUMP!’s Core Principles
A standout moment for JUMP! was a workshop facilitated by Arindita, who skillfully integrated her own experience as an educator with the foundation’s core program principles. She led participants through the developmental curve of a child, demonstrating how a well-sequenced experiential program fits seamlessly, like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, into a student’s journey of self-construction. This approach resonated deeply with attendees, illustrating how experiential education can be strategically integrated into traditional school curricula to foster holistic development. Educators engaged with the concepts, making connections to their own experiences and finding ways to apply these insights in their contexts.
